These are renderings of the different stages of creating my still life in Blender. As this is only a first draft, I still need to work more on this to improve it, e.g. the label on the coke bottle and the surface which the objects are sitting on.

Higher Art Design Unit

Monday, January 24th, 2011

For higher art, I decided to create a leaflet for children for Deep Sea World in Edinburgh.  The front has a bumpy texture to represent under the sea and each page is bright to appeal to children. Each image inside is hand drawn and coloured with pencils. This slideshow shows each page of my leaflet:

First shot at calligraphy

My first calligraphy sheet

My first calligraphy sheet

Before creating our visuals for our magazines, we had a lesson where we were able to try using calligraphy pens and ink. It was really difficult to begin with, however it became easy really quickly and I enjoyed trying something else new.

Magazine Article: First Draft

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

This slideshow shows images of the first draft of my magazine article created using Serif Pageplus. The opening double page spread shows a scanned image of my pastel drawing. After completing our first drafts, the class looked and made suggestions as to how we can improve our articles before handing in the final draft.

Pastels!

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

Our first major project in Advanced Higher Graphics is to illustrate a magazine article.  However, before completing our articles on the computer, we had to create a visual by hand of what it would look like. Our teacher suggested we used pastels to create our images as they are different to what we are used to and create very strong images.  For my opening double page spread to my article, I took an image and manipulated it by using a vector trace in Inkscape to simplify the colours and then copied it using pastels. This imaged was later scanned and used in my final article on computer using Serif Pageplus. The image of the shoe on the front cover is also done using pastels, however I decided not to use this image for my final article.

Higher Graphics: Children’s Book

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

For our Thematic Presentation in Higher Graphics, our task was to take an object (I chose a hand held fan)  and draw every component part of it manually and using Pro Engineer. Next, we had to create business stationary for a company selling the product. In previous years, the next stage was to create a leaflet advertising the product, however we were the first class to do something a little different. We were given the chance to create a book for children incorporating our object. I chose to write a story called ‘Whoosh’ where ‘Fred the fan’ saved the town of ‘Happyville’ after a heatwave by cooling them down! After creating my book in Serif Pageplus, I uploaded it to ‘Blurb’ and had it published and the following slideshow shows images of my finished book. I really enjoyed this task as it was something completely new and different to anything I had done before.

Higher Art Final Piece

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Last year I studied Higher Art and Design and my theme for the expressive unit was ‘In the Kitchen’.

Higher Art expressive final piece

In The Kitchen

I had to research the theme by doing drawings of various kitchen objects, then go on to develop the theme by doing some different small still lifes.

This is my final piece.

Julian Opie Portrait

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Our class was given the task of creating a portrait of ourselves in the style of Julian Opie.
His style is to take photographs and reproduce them on the computer. In his portraiture he uses black lines, flat blocks of colour and little detail.

More of his work can be seen on his website :

My Julian Opie PortraitThis is my portrait created by using Serif Page Plus.

I like his unusual but simple style of creating portraits as it is the first time I have seen them done this way- on the computer with minimal detail.
